A new feature was unveiled by Instagram through which users were allowed to post 1-second video loops. This was done for keeping up with the rivals that offer animated images. Boomerang is a new video application. With this, everyday moments are turned into something unexpected and fun, states picture-sharing network, owned by Facebook, in a blog.
A friend jumping off the diving board can be captured and this would defy the physics as she would fly back and forth through air. An ordinary selfie with friends can be transformed into some funny video. The exact moment can be captured when some friend of yours blows the birthday candles and then watch them come back to life every now and then.
This feature of Instagram is short as compared to 6-second video segments on Vine, owned by Twitter. However, it has an aim of a richer experience as compared to animated images that are known as gifs. With Boomerange, a burst of photos is taken and they are stitched together into a mini-video of high quality which plays forward and backward.
Recently, Instagram stated that its user base had crossed around 400 million users but still intense competition is being faced with other services like Snapchat, that has gained popularity among young users of smartphones. The number of people who share videos and pictures every month with Instagram have risen from 300million start of this year and it tops the number of people who use Twitter monthly by nearly 100 million.
