A support for 360 degree videos on Android devices and web has been rolled out by Facebook in the month of September. Now, 360 degree videos in iOS has also been introduced by the social platform and it also tests 360 degree ads.
The main highlight of this feature is that with this, videos shot in 360 degree format can be watched by users in different angles. On desktops, the angle can be changed by users by using on-screen cursors. When it comes to mobile devices, it can be done by dragging fingers on top of video or by turning the handset.
Making an announcement of this news, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO, stated in a FB Post that this 360 video is a completely new experience because camera cannot be moved around. New ways of sharing experience is opened up and you would feel as if you are a part of this thing. It is a good step towards immersive experience. A 360 degree video that was shot by ABC news was shared in North Korea. The support for new video feature was added by Zuckerberg was added on the social platform and with this, people can share lot of 360 content in the future. Notably, till now, the daily active users on Facebook is 1.1 billion.
A dedicated site has also been launched by the company for 360 degree videos wherein users can record as well as share videos. Some 360 degree videos shared by LeBron, VICE, World Surf League and Nickelodeon are also listed on the website. Apart from support for iPad and iPhone devices, a 360 degree video support was added for Samsung Gear VR headset too.
