Vanishing missives could be sent by users of Facebook in France with the Smartphone Messenger application on Thursday and this ramped up the challenge to Snapchat. Facebook stated that a small test is going to be conducted in France of a feature through which messages can be sent by people which would disappear hour after sending.
With disappearing messages, people get another fun option of choosing from when they have started communication on Messenger. When an hourglass icon is tapped on the top right hand screen on Messenger, messages can be sent by users and after that they would be seen vanishing after an hour they are sent.
The testing of this feature is being done on Messenger application for mobile devices that are powered by Android or Apple Software. If the software is successful, the availability would be seen in other countries too. Ephemeral messages as an option in Messenger is definitely a direct challenge to Snapchat, its messaging rival.
The appeal of Snapchat has been the premise that messages disappear shortly after they are viewed. Users get a sense of being able to keep the videos or pictures ephemeral or private. Snapchat which is Los-Angeles based became popular in the US specially among teenagers, after the release of the initial app in September 2011. A $3 billion takeover offer was rejected by Snapchat from Facebook in the year 2013.
A Messenger app virtual assistant was tested earlier by Facebook that the social network says goes beyond the programs of artificial intelligence that are in the market.
